The manufacturing process division is based on experimental methods using production instrumentation, as well as numerical simulation to understand the thermal and mechanical phenomena involved in metal cutting.

Themes to be developed include:

  • Manufacturing of new geometries: Cutting and grinding of ceramics, cutting and grinding of high-performance steels.
  • Optimization of tool trajectories using polynomial approaches, as well as optimization of surface state with control over geometric discontinuities.
  • Machining of composite materials and tool wear during cutting.
  • Surface capture: reverse engineering and free-form digitalization.
